I accidentally discovered this show "I Can See Your Voice", which can be described as [insert singing competition show here] meets "To Tell the Truth" . A contestant is faced with six "secret singers", identified only by some aspect of themselves (job title, hobby, etc.- for example Mario (or Luigi) would be called "Plumber", Fix-It Felix would be "Handyman", Tiana would be "Restaurateur", Ms. Frizzle would be "Elementary School Teacher", Adam Bricker would be "Cruise Ship Doctor", Janet Wood would be "Florist"... you get the idea). It's up to the contestant to determine which "secret singers" can actually sing (those who can't are already aware their singing talent is lacking; they don't need the contestant to tell them), winning money every time they eliminate a "bad singer" and hoping only a "good singer" remains at the very end to sing a duet with the "musical guest" (an established singer like Dionne Warwick or Chris Kirkpatrick), on which the contestant can gamble their accumulated winnings to win the grand prize (what, if anything, the "secret singers" may get is unknown; likely they get an appearance fee at least). You can (as of this post) see seasons 2 and 3 on Tubi (free, no subscription necessary); I dare not link to any full episodes on YouTube or Dailymotion lest they disappear.
Anyway, were I to go on that show, I'd be "Cat Lady". Ideally, I'd appear on a "Classic TV Night" where my song for Round 1 (the "Lip Sync Showdown") would be the theme from "Heathcliff" because of course a Cat Lady would sing about a cat. Not sure what my "swan song" would be if the contestant eliminated me, but were I to make it to the end the duet (no idea who I'd be potentially singing it with) would be the theme from "The Love Boat" with me coming in after "...it floats back to you". (Yes, I do have other songs in mind should I end up on any other themed episode or one with no theme.) Whether I'm a "good singer" or a "bad singer", I can't say- meaning I don't really know if I am or not. Either way, my appearance on that show can never be (partially because as of this post no word on if there'll even be a new season), but I can dress up as if I were on there.
Unfortunately, no sooner had I made that decision than the aforementioned VP candidate and pop star ran their mouths, making a "cat lady" costume... not so politically neutral, or at the very least implying one is a fan of the pop star

Can't even think of a title
Dec. 30th, 2022 07:58 pmSigh, bring on season 3...
Dec. 31st, 2021 06:48 pmI've already made enough depressing posts on That Other Site and again there's nothing I can really say that won't get me bullied (which has happened already- again) or at best an unwelcome lecture, so I'm just going to end this here. I've already learned not to be optimistic at all, so welcome to yet another year of h-e-double hockey sticks.
On a serious note...
Aug. 15th, 2021 11:38 pm( last warning: here be spoilers for a 10 year old game )
P.S.: I know there's a more "mainstream" comparison I could have made, a reference more people would get, but I had my reasons not to use that one.
Goodbye and good riddance 2020
Dec. 31st, 2020 08:03 pmI'm not going to say anything else about this year tonight, possibly not ever. There's still lots I want to write about, but not while it can be considered "quarantine writing". Instead, I'm going to share some words of wisdom from Matt Mercer (as Chrom from "Fire Emblem): Anything can change!
As the year and decade end...
Dec. 31st, 2019 07:39 pmEr, that's it. Don't really have time and not really in the right frame of mind to say much else. I'm Barbara Walters, and this is 2020.
- First stop: Tokyo. More specifically, Tokyo Disneyland. Unlike Anaheim and Paris, though, this time it'll be one full day in the Magic Kingdom counterpart and one full day at Tokyo DisneySea instead of one day with a "park hopper" ticket. I'd heard DisneySea by itself is too much for only a couple hours/half a day and let my stepmom know this when she was getting ready to buy the tickets.
- No, not staying at any "on site" Disney hotels; we have a couple more days in Tokyo where we'll doing/seeing other things. Only set plans are the aforementioned Disney parks. Anything else like Tokyo Tower and all the shops and video arcades (yes, that's still a thriving "scene" in Japan)- we'll see.
- We will also be visiting Hiroshima, then a couple days in Kyoto. For the latter, we will try to fit in a tea ceremony, and maybe a visit to Nintendo headquarters (yes, I know you can only take pictures outside/no public tours are offered).
- Yes, this will be my longest plane ride ever. No, I'm not looking forward to that.
- I tried (for the literal fifth time in my life) to try and learn Japanese (beyond a handful of words and phrases I picked up from watching subtitled animes and playing untranslated games- including some I know not to say if you know what I mean), only to realize why it didn't work the previous times. Japanese is just too complicated (er, no offense)! Lucky there are translator apps now.
- Due to all the train travel, I probably won't have my laptop. But I will have my Galaxy.
- Yes, I do plan to buy a kimono while I'm in Japan (doesn't matter what city). Only if I find one I really like for a reasonable price, though.
- Because we'll be in Japan on the actual day (and my sister will be visiting our brother, sister-in-law, and little niece), we're actually celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend before we leave. Coincidentally, that also happens to be Labor Thanksgiving Day, Japan's own version of Thanksgiving (though more like a cross between a harvest festival (like what American Thanksgiving is
really supposed to be) and what the U.S calls Labor Day).
Rare update, and randomness
Nov. 21st, 2019 01:37 amYes, another increasingly rare post here. And it’s another bunch of randomness. May or may not go into more details on any of these later.
- I attended Katsucon and DragonCon as usual, but this year I also made a return visit to Otakon. Did not go to Anime Weekend Atlanta (AWA); it was too far apart (time wise) from DragonCon this year and I could not justify staying in Georgia that long or making whatever arrangements to travel back to Georgia after coming home from DragonCon. No, I did not attended DC Sakura Matsuri this year; I had a very good reason not to.
- On Halloween weekend, I ended up attending Anime USA (minus Friday night, when I visited a friend I no longer live near instead) one last time. I know I’ve said that a lot, but this time I just might mean it.
- One of the reasons I did go to AUSA is because this marks my 20th year as a cosplayer/regular convention attendee, and my very first con just so happened to be AUSA 1999. I even revived my very first costume (well, not counting childhood Halloween and “dress up” costumes)- and namesake- in honor of the occasion.
- Speaking of my (screen) namesake, yes, I’m well aware that half of said namesake (the one I don’t cosplay) is now in Smash Ultimate, and since I have the DLC season pass I was gonna end up with him anyway. While this was mostly a pleasant surprise, at the same time it has also reopened some old wounds. Let’s just say there are reasons my former “King of Fighters” fansite was focused solely on KoF ‘98. More on all this later (probably not until I get back from my next big trip).
- Last but far from least, well, this is the very good reason I did not attend Sakura Matsuri: I became an aunt. My niece- my brother’s first child- was born that weekend, and right away my mother and I went to visit. Family always takes precedence over fandom.
As I said, at least one of these I’ll probably elaborate on later. But for now… well, you have an idea of what’s been going on with me (unless you follow me on That Other Site, not that I’ve been particularly active there, either).
Requiem for a replay
Jan. 30th, 2019 11:57 amAt some point, we decided to play a team battle- us against a random computer (or "CPU") opponent. By sheer coincidence, Dad picked Chrom and I picked Lucina. This of course caused me to comment "how appropriate, given their relationship" and explain that the characters are indeed father and daughter. The fight itself wasn't all that spectacular, but Dad ended up the big winner (since it was Chrom who got the victory speech at the end) and either way it was a real life bonding moment and therefore special to me. So I saved the replay- something I had never done before (not even in the previous "Smash" games).
However, I did not have a micro SD card for my Switch, and hadn't thought I'd really need one. Unfortunately, Smash Ultimate deletes any replays saved to the system memory every time it updates, and with the release of the Piranha Plant DLC came a new update. I tried to stop it from installing, but like with Windows updates I could only delay it so many times before it forced the issue. So sadly the replay is gone
Farewell 2018
Dec. 31st, 2018 10:31 pm- Everyone's talking about MagFest, but I can definitely say I'm not going. I know it's not the weekend I'll be on the opposite coast nor the weekend I have a baby shower to attend (in Georgia), but having three big events in a row is a bit much.
- Oh, you caught that part about a baby shower? It's for my sister-in-law (lives in Alabama but the shower is being hosted by my aunt who lives north of Atlanta). Yes, in April I will officially be someone's crazy maiden aunt!
- Like I said, Magfest is out (again, too much else going on that month). I do plan to still attend Katsucon, and of course DragonCon. AwesomeCon, Otakon, and Anime Weekend Atlanta (a.k.a. AWA) aren't ruled out, either.
- This is all I'm going to say on a certain subject right now, though a full post (or more) about it may be forthcoming: "Wreck-It Ralph" was my favorite Disney movie of this past decade, but "Ralph Breaks the Internet" can DIAF (yes, I hate it enough to say that, almost put a second "F" there and not as a typo).
- On a brighter note, I'd had mixed feelings about "Super Smash Bros Ultimate" (a.k.a. "Smash Ultimate", the newest "Smash Brothers" game for the Nintendo Switch) for... reasons. But shortly before Christmas I changed my mind, my dad listened, and that was my Christmas present from him. I subsequently spent three days unlocking all the characters (74 in there but only eight available from the get-go), and now I don't think I'll ever go back to "Smash 4". Again, there may be post all about it later.
California Here I Come
Dec. 30th, 2018 04:32 pmIt will be four days (not counting travel time)- including my birthday, with just my dad this time (though we are using my stepmom's reward points for our hotel). Once there, our plans are as follows:
- We will be touring the Sony Pictures Studio. Among other things, this is where "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" tape (though they may not actually be taping while we're there), and also features (verbatim from their website)
...soundstages once home to iconic films like “The Wizard of Oz,” “Men in Black” and “Spider-Man.”
.
- Other studios we will be touring are Warner Brothers and Paramount.
- We're not staying in it (not even for just one night), but we will be touring the RMS Queen Mary, former luxury cruise ship now permanently moored in Long Beach (not far from L.A.) as a hotel and tourist attraction.
- Yes, we will be spending a day in Disneyland. In fact, that's where we'll be on my birthday (the first time I'll be celebrating my birthday at any Disney park).
- We do plan to see who all we can find on the Walk of Fame, and take in other L.A./Hollywood attractions as time permits.
- Yes, I'm flying there and back. No, I'm not looking forward to that (though at least it won't be as long a flight this time)
- I've been told I need to get an autograph book for any and all celebrities I might run into, but I'm pretty sure the only autographs I'll get are from Disney characters (meaning the characters at Disneyland, not their voice actors). There have been times I've run into celebrity guests during conventions (especially DragonCon) when they weren't at panels or their autograph/meet-and-greet tables, but I was polite and left them alone at those times. Why should this be any different?
Christmas Eve randomness
Dec. 24th, 2018 10:43 pmAnd I know what day this is. On that note:
- I was going to do a new Nativity play with a different set of toys, but ended up not feeling it. I'll probably stage it sometime before the year is out, but save the pics for next Christmastime. In the meantime, here's 2015's again, with "The Night Before Christmas".
- As far as actual stage performances by humans rather than toys, my local theater is not doing "A Christmas Carol" this year and what they're doing instead is far too glurgey for my (or my mom's) liking. So, instead, we saw "Charlie Brown's Christmas Spectacular" while we were at Kings Dominion's Winterfest, and a couple weeks later caught a performance of "The Nutcracker". (The stage show and light display for the season thus being fulfilled.)
- Fun fact: the aforementioned Nativity and "Night Before Christmas" "plays" with toys weren't the only time I did such a thing. When I was a kid, I had a set of "Beauty and the Beast" paper dolls, and had them put on "A Christmas Carol" (to an audience of myself only). However, I don't think I had my own camera back then, and if I did it wasn't digital thus film was a concern, so no pictures.
(No, the odds of paper dolls having survived after all these years is slim, so you already know that answer to that question.) - I thought of updating my list of holiday likes and dislikes (also 2014 edition for the record), but there would have only been two additions to the "bad" list and literally would have applied to this year only. Let's not discuss them right now
, even if one was hinted at already. - I have this Disney Christmas book (acquired at a book fair earlier in the year), and two of the stories weren't what I thought they were (and not in a bad way). "A Present for the Queen" is an "Alice In Wonderland" story instead of "Frozen". And I thought "Meowy Christmas" would be about "The Aristocats", but it's actually about Figaro (Pinocchio and Gepetto's cat, and for whom a childhood cat was named).
- Even though Elf on the Shelf is on my "holiday dislikes" list, I for whatever reason got the idea to parody it with Elsa on the Shelf (read: put my Queen Elsa plushie in random places around my house from December 1st-23rd). May post the pictures here at some point, but of course those following me on That Other Site saw me post them in real time throughout the month.
As long as I’m telling truth, I think it’s time I confessed something about one of my costumes, specifically one of the newest ones. No, not the Glinda the Good Witch or Raggedy Ann costumes I wore for local parades or the cat kigurumi I’ve worn in parades and during “down time” at recent conventions. Last year’s Halloween costume, which I’ve since worn to several conventions and is actually part of my current active “rotation” as it were. Ostensibly, it’s a vampire, or a “Victorian vampire” if you wanted to be specific. Well, that’s not entirely true.
Short explanation: it’s really a character from a video game, an I.T. guy who also volunteers at an animal shelter. He (more or less) dresses like a Victorian vampire when he’s not at work; so when I wear that costume I’m actually a guy who is in costume himself.

May. 14th, 2018 10:41 pmRemember the end of my last post? Where I mentioned that, for April Fool’s Day, I could have mentioned that exactly one week prior I had been trapped in a room I couldn’t escape, but got to meet Spencer Reid and play “Fix-It Felix Jr”? Well, oddly enough I didn’t just make that up out of thin air (yes, I am familiar with the cruder turn of phrase; no, I’m not an extra on an upcoming episode of “Criminal Minds”).
See, that weekend Mom and I were visiting my brother and sister-in-law in Huntsville, Alabama. While there, we decided to try one of those escape rooms. You know how in some video games you have solve a puzzle or puzzles to open a door or box? This is basically a live-action, real-time version of that. And there did happen to be an escape room attraction not far from their house. Granted, I was hesitant to take part in any such thing, but I was reassured there would be no jump scares and nothing/nobody would touch or grab me no matter what happened. Also that you’re simply let out of the room should the puzzles not be solved within the time limit, the guide could still (via a monitor on the wall) give the occasional cryptic hint (think the Cheshire Cat in “American McGee’s Alice”) upon request, and (not that it came up) if any of us really needed to leave before time ran out or we opened all the locks, all we had to do was say so and we’d have been let out. So we were never truly trapped or isolated. Between the four of us and an aforementioned cryptic hint or three, we managed to get down to the last two or three puzzles but ran out of time before getting them all. Had we been given another five minutes, we probably would have made it.
After (intentionally) posing with signs good-naturedly mocking our failure, we went to a local bar/arcade (barcade?) for dinner. My brother and sister-in-law had been there before; they had actually played the “Simpsons” arcade game from 1991 there all the way through on her birthday (they even sent pictures). Our waiter there bore an almost uncanny resemblance to Spencer Reid, though his name wasn’t Spencer or Matthew (the latter as in Matthew Gray Gubler, the actor who plays Dr. Reid). No, I did not get his number or social media information. And not only was the aforementioned “The Simpsons” machine there (among many other games of varying vintage), but so was… wait for it… a legit “Fix-It Felix Jr” machine- just like the ones that had been at DisneyQuest (perhaps it was one of the ones that had been in DisneyQuest (glad it found a new home if so)?) Granted, it cost money to play this time, but I actually beat a level (and of course watched poor Ralph get thrown in the mud) unlike before. Still, it was my brother whose initials were on that high score board for the game, not mine. Yes, I did play other games besides that one.
So, yeah I could’ve spun all that into a harrowing tale of being trapped yet meeting Reid and playing “Fix-It Felix” for April Fool’s Day, but I took advantage of Easter being on the same day instead. Still, I wouldn’t have exactly been lying.
As I said on another occasion it was relevant, anyone who follows me on That Other Site likely knows of my habit of changing my profile pic depending on the time of year/upcoming events. With, again, the two holidays colliding, not to mention the new "frames" feature (which yes I did use a couple of times in addition to using/re-using the relevant icons themselves), I wasn't entirely sure what to do. If nothing else, I did indeed use not one but two April Fool's icons on That Other Site in previous years. One, a cat wearing a jester's hat with the words "April Fool" at the bottom, I used for a couple years until the resizing/cropping system for profile pictures changed and there was no way I could get it to look good. At that point and thereafter, my April Fool's profile image was this infamous Disney Princess fanart with "Happy April Fool's Day" and some extra sparkle effects added by someone who wasn't me.
So which did I use? Did I use a frame- and if so, what kind? As I explained on That Other Site itself:
Ended up adding both Easter and April Fool's frames to my now-otherwise-unusable original April Fool's icon, sharing the "memory" of when I first used said icon, switching to my usual April Fool's icon, adding both an April Fool's and Easter frame to it, switching to my usual Easter icon, adding a April Fool's frame to it, letting it automatically switch back after several hours, then finally adding an Easter frame. Thus, a rare (and fairly tame) April Fool's shenanigan I actually engaged in.
Hence all the rapid-fire notifications of me having changed my profile picture. It was my way of acknowledging both holidays and engaging in April Fool's shenanigans at the same time. (Well, that and re-sharing this "Peanuts" comic where Snoopy was the April Fool but coincidentally another (and better known) holiday-related alter ego of his, the Easter Beagle, was mentioned.) Still beats deviantArt's
It was either all the icon changes or (and this would've only "celebrated" April Fool's Day rather than both holidays) me posting about how exactly one week earlier I was trapped in this room, was unable to escape, but I got to meet Spencer Reid as well as play "Fix-It Felix Jr" and actually win a level unlike my laughable failure at DisneyQuest (R.I.P.).
Another month gets away
Mar. 31st, 2018 11:48 pm[I was rarely even online at all for quite a while because] I was fearing a major upheaval in my living situation followed by another.Though as I also mentioned there:
I'm past both and with favorable outcomes.
And well, this'll have to do for this month. I've got several ideas, ones not affected by Photobucket's shenanigans, but I'll go ahead and say not all of them are pleasant and I just need the guts and whatever to act on them.
